K'omox Glacier
The Legend of Queneesh is a cherished legend among the K’omoks people of Vancouver Island. It narrates the story of an elder, Qwoi qwa lak, who had a prophetic dream about an impending flood. He warned the Chief, Gye gya janook, who, respecting the wisdom of elders, mobilized the community to prepare. The K'omoks people built canoes, harvested cedar bark, wove a long rope, and preserved food. As the rains began and continued incessantly, the river swelled, flooding their homes and forcing them into the canoes that they anchored to the glacier. Amidst their fear, they prayed to the Great Spirit. Miraculously, the glacier, Queneesh, transformed into a giant white whale, rising above the floodwaters and ensuring their survival. When the rain finally stopped, Queneesh settled back, overlooking the Comox Valley like a guardian king. This remarkable event brought immense relief and joy to the people, who then celebrated their safety and resilience. Today, Queneesh remains a revered symbol, painted on the front of the K’omoks big house, embodying their enduring respect for nature and the wisdom of their ancestors.
"Kwa la whee gai, Queneesh. Thank you, thank you."
Key Features:
Durable Design:
Crafted from high-quality 10mm thick recycled PVC, our screens are built to last.
Weather Tolerance:
Our screens are designed to withstand extreme conditions from -60° to +60° Celsius, including direct sunlight and strong winds.
Framing Instructions:
Proper framing is crucial for the durability and longevity of PVC screens. For high wind areas, avoid the dado/groove technique and instead use the Simple Cedar Sandwich method as shown below:
