Sea Serpent, designed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Brent Smith from Cape Mudge, honours the legendary Sisiutl, a supernatural sea serpent associated with protection, strength, revival, and transformation. Known for its powerful gaze and shapeshifting abilities, the Sisiutl is one of the most striking and respected beings in Kwakwaka'wakw visual tradition.
This design captures the commanding presence of the serpent, with strong mirrored forms and expressive details that create a sense of movement, watchfulness, and protection. Traditionally, the Sisiutl appeared on canoes, ceremonial objects, and entranceways, serving as a guardian against harmful forces.
Sea Serpent brings bold cultural symbolism and dramatic visual presence to fences, patios, gates, and gathering spaces. For those looking for similar imagery in another size and layout, its sister screen, Mystic Sea, offers related Sisiutl imagery by Brent Smith in a different composition.

DIY Framing

PVC and HDPE should be framed on all 4 sides

Minimum 1" x 1" lumber or metal recommended

Sandwich method recommended for a secure fit

Groove or dado systems can work when the panel fits very snugly with minimal movement

Avoid loose-fitting channels that allow the panel to shake or rattle over time

ACM can be framed in any style or installed without full framing
Shipping Recommendation
For 3' x 6' panels and larger, ACM or HDPE are recommended for shipped orders due to their durability in transit.
Production Time
Each screen is crafted to order on Vancouver Island and is not mass produced.
Please allow 1–2 weeks for production before shipping.
