Dzunukwa, or T'al in Ayajusam, is a powerful supernatural figure known throughout Northwest Coast storytelling, with teachings and interpretations that vary between Nations and families. Often known as the Wild Woman of the Woods, she is associated with the deep forest, mystery, wealth, supernatural strength, and her unmistakable cry of “Hu Hu.” Many stories tell of Dzunukwa carrying a basket on her back, warning children not to wander too far from home. Like many cautionary tales, these stories are rooted in protection, helping children understand the dangers of straying too far.
In ceremonial traditions, Dzunukwa is also connected to wealth, copper, good fortune, hereditary rights, and the responsibilities carried through family crests and potlatch practices. This privacy screen reflects the artist’s own Kwakwaka’wakw, Pentl’ach, and K’ómoks First Nation heritage, honouring Dzunukwa as a layered figure of caution, abundance, strength, and cultural presence.

Minimum 1" x 1" lumber or metal recommended

Sandwich method recommended for a secure fit

Groove or dado systems can work when the panel fits very snugly with minimal movement

Avoid loose-fitting channels that allow the panel to shake or rattle over time

ACM can be framed in any style or installed without full framing
Shipping Recommendation
For 3' x 6' panels and larger, ACM or HDPE are recommended for shipped orders due to their durability in transit.

Each screen is crafted to order on Vancouver Island and is not mass produced.
Please allow 1–2 weeks for production before shipping.
