2011 Japanese Tsunami Buoys (Hanging Planters) - Collected from coastal beaches
Lost Buoys Planters – History Reimagined
Recovered from the shores of British Columbia, these buoys carry a story that began with the 2011 Japanese Tsunami. For over a decade, our partners at Ocean Legacy have worked to recover and preserve them, allowing us to give each buoy a new purpose and a new life.
Every buoy is truly one of a kind. With their weathered textures, unique markings, and incredible resilience, they make extraordinary vessels for plants. Herbs, succulents, and flowers all thrive in them, transforming each buoy into a living piece of history that is as functional as it is beautiful. These planters are more than conversation pieces. They are symbols of renewal, resilience, and sustainability.
*We have hundreds in our collection, though each varies in size, colour, and features. When you order online, you will select a general size and colour, and we will carefully choose a buoy for you. Some bear Japanese or English writing, some have distinctive cuts, and all carry the marks of their journey.
Please note: While many of these buoys feature Japanese markings and were recovered together, we cannot guarantee every buoy originated from the tsunami. If you would like to request specific features or markings, please reach out to place a custom order for an additional fee.
