Aid to Navigation is a 3D lighthouse design with an ode to the Portland Head Lighthouse situated along the shores of Fort Williams Park, Maine. This frame decor comes with a glow-in-the-dark light beacon to 'light your home'.
Portland Head Light has long protected Portland and the adjacent area. Cape Elizabeth residents were deeply committed to American independence from British rule. In 1776., the town of Cape Elizabeth posted a guard of eight soldiers at Portland Head to warn citizens of coming attacks. The original tower measured 72' from base to lantern deck and was lit by 16 whale oil lamps.
The lighthouse was first lit on January 10, 1791, and was in operation by August 7th, 1989, Petty Officer Davis Simpson struck the US flag for the last time at the decommissioning ceremony recognizing the automation of the lighthouse. Bring a piece of history into your home with our "Aid to Navigation" 3D wall hanging and let the beauty and function of lighthouses continue to light your way home.
